The Museum at Prairiefire (MAP) is a museum in Overland Park that focuses on natural history. The museum opened in 2014. The building’s beautiful exterior is meant to evoke the prairie-fire burns of Kansas. MAP is a partner with American Museum of Natural History.
Marvel at the Tyrannosaurus rex replica in the Great Hall! The museum regularly shows traveling exhibits from other museums. The Museum at Prairiefire is free except for the featured exhibition, the Discovery Room, and the Stonehenge Virtual Reality Experience.
Shawnee Mission Park is a giant 1,250-acre urban park in Johnson County. There is something for everyone at Shawnee Mission Park. There are biking, hiking, and horse trails. Visitors might see deer or foxes. Bird-watchers are likely to see wild turkeys, tufted titmice, cardinals, or woodpeckers.
The park has a 120-acre lake with beaches that you can enjoy. Dog owners can use the 40-acre dog park. Shawnee Mission Park also contains the John Barkley Visitor Center and The Theatre in the Park. The park was opened in 1964 and has become the most popular park in all of Kansas.
Sporting Kansas City is a Major League Soccer team located in Kansas City, Kansas. They have won the MLS Cup in 2000 and 2013. The team was started in 1996 and were called the Kansas City Wizards until 2010.
They play their home games at Children’s Mercy Park. Sporting Kansas City is currently the only professional sports team that play home games in the state of Kansas. All the seats have a great sightline, and the crowd noise in the stadium is amazing! We are the famous SKC!
