Best Beaches Near Kansas City, MO

Several sandy beaches are offered for summer enjoyment in the Kansas City, Missouri area. Some offer camping while all are available from Memorial Day to Labor Day for day use. The beaches provide a great location for lake swimming to cool off during the hot and humid summer days.  Some of the beaches and parks are located near our Kansas City Metro Apartments. 

Longview Lake Beach  

This popular Kansas City beach is located on Raytown Road. The Longview Lake beach is a Jackson County Park with lifeguards. It has restrooms, showers, changing rooms, picnic tables, and shelters. It is open for boating, swimming, and fishing with a permit. In addition, this beach park has a volleyball court. 

Pets and alcoholic beverages are not permitted at this park. The park does not open until the temperature is 70 degrees or higher. It will close if inclement summer weather is predicted. 

Blue Springs Lake 

This is a Jackson County Park on the southeast side of Kansas City. The beach is part of  Flemming Park, located in neighboring Lee’s Summit. The Blue Springs Lake offers 729 acres ideal for swimming, power boating, water skiing, personal watercraft, and other water activities. 

Swimming is allowed only in the beach area or from an anchored boat. Swimmers entering the water from a boat must wear a personal flotation device. Lifejackets are also required for all water sports. 

The beach area has certified lifeguards, restrooms, a changing area, and a volleyball area. The beach park also has a marina with a shop where beach visitors can purchase food and ice. Pontoon boats are available for rent, and the marina has slips for overnight rental and a fuel dock. All boat operators and people fishing must have permits. The lake is stocked with striped bass, bluegill, largemouth bass, and catfish. A fish cleaning station is also available for anglers. 

Blue Springs Lake also has a campground about five minutes from the beach area. The campground features hookups for recreational vehicles, firewood, picnic facilities, restrooms, showers, and a playground. 

Lake Jacomo 

This is another lake area in Southeast Kansas City that is a lake near Blue Springs in Flemming Park. This lake has a separate sailing area for windsurfing. The 970-acre lake is ideal for water paddleboards and kayaks. The Lake Jacomo Marina has power boats for rental, a fuel dock, and fishing supplies. 

Swimming is allowed from anchored boats. All participants in water sports must wear the appropriate life jacket for their activity. 

The Kemper Outdoor Education Center is located on the east side of the lake. The center offers field trips for youngsters, hiking trails, and a summer camp. 

The park also has a campground and a golf course. 

Hillsdale Lake and State Park 

This park is located just south of the Kansas City Metro area, about three miles east of US-168/K-7. The 12,000-acre park is home to one of the newest reservoirs in the state. It offers approximately 4,500 acres of water. 

Hillsdale Lake and State Park has several sandy beaches, including a beach exclusively for swimming. A special beach is designated for watercraft. 

This is also a good lake for anglers with walleye, catfish, crappie, bluegill, and largemouth bass. 

The park has 32 miles of marked trails and an equestrian center for horseback riders. Camping is available. 

Shawnee Mission Park 

Located southeast of Kansas City, this park has a 120-acre lake in the center. Shawnee Mission Park offers water recreation training in addition to shows and concerts in the 1,655-acre park. The park includes the amphitheater. 

You can bring your dog to this park that offers a 44-acre off-leash park with a private beach for you and your dog to enjoy! The public swim beach has concession stands. 

This park offers open-water swim training for people who want a good swimming workout or who want to train for a triathlon event. The park also has a marina, 11 shelters, nature trails, an 18-hole disc golf course, equestrian trails, an archery range, and a campground.
